A new aid program for asia

Krebsallianz gGmbH is pleased to announce the expansion of its cancer medicine donation program to assist underserved patients in the Philippines.

During a recent field visit to the Philippines, Krebsallianz Director of Strategic Alliances Dr. Thomas Högn met with officials of the public cancer hospitals, local support foundations, and government agencies of the Philippines to access needs and determine how Krebsallianz can best assist underserved cancer patients in the Philippines. We have provided chemotherapy and adjunctive therapies to cancer patients at the Philippine General Hospital’s Cancer Institute, the Philippine Veterans Memorial Medical Center Rizal Medical Center, and the Dr. Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center. At a ceremony with local partners, Dr. Högn stated, “Krebsallianz is pleased to expand our programs to Asia and provide assistance to cancer patients that would otherwise go without their required treatments.”

Philippine Cancer Society Executive Director Dr. Kelly Salvador, former Health Minister Dr. Jaime Galvez Tan, and AAI President Al Santoli hosted the Krebsallianz during their visit to Manila. Dr. Salvador commented, “This model of access to chemotherapy medicines is vital if we are going to be in a position to more fully treat the underserved cancer patients of this country.”  He added, “We applaud Krebsallianz for taking bold actions to help address the high cancer mortality rates in our country.”

Previous cancer medicines donated to date have included medicines for pediatric leukemia, solid tumors, co-rectal cancers, and a first-line brain cancer therapy, as well as adjunctive therapies that help control nausea and vomiting associated with certain chemotherapies.  Other essential and specialty medicines provided by Krebsallianz are assisting patients with specific infections, pain and depression. Krebsallianz seeks to fulfill the unmet medical needs of cancer patients in the developing world who would otherwise go without.
