Krebsallianz supports Cancer prevention in Peru

Peruvian women have one of the highest rates of cervical cancer in the world. This is disproportionately true for impoverished, indigenous women who live in the isolated mountainous regions of the country. And this is why Krebsallianz supports the CerviCusco Centre in Cusco both with medicines free of charge, vaccines and preventive testing.

The CerviCusco Centre does all it can to take care of the health of women affected. For a long time it has taken a lead role in issues regarding women’s health in Peru. Firstly, women can get comprehensive information on cervical cancer. With the help of modern technology they insure that women with different levels of education are able to understand the risks of the disease.

Two out of three cancer diseases can be prevented

It is particularly important, that CerviCusco offers the possibility to get vaccinated against cervical cancer. By doing so, 70 percent of all cervical cancer can be prevented. At the same time, the vaccine protects against genital warts.

Most of all, CerviCusco provides means to recognize and treat cervical cancer: Their “Pap-Test” is of highest quality and unique in Peru.

Poor women are treated free of charge

CerviCusco takes care that less women get ill with cervical cancer and die. There is no other country in the world with as many women being caught by this disease. Especially impoverished indigenous women are affected. They often have no possibility to undergo any preventive testing. And they are too poor to afford vaccination or even treatment. This is particularly sad, as cervical cancer can be prevented and is curable.

Krebsallianz donates medicines

CerviCusco makes sure that every woman gets the necessary treatment and the drugs needed. Krebsallianz supports the work of the Centre with emphasis. That is why it provides medicines free of charge as well as vaccines. Because also poor women should have a realistic chance for cure.
