Parents and children of the cancer clinic in Chisinau say Thank You!

A heart felt thank-you to the donors of Krebsallianz was received from the oncological hospital in Chisinau, Moldova. Krebsallianz donated a new hot-water boiler, after the old boiler had broken down weeks ago and turned out to be un-reparable.

Children suffering from Leukemia remain in hospital between nine and twelve months. In a poor country like Moldova, it is mostly the mother who stays with her child during those difficult times, as parents often do not have the money to commute between their villages and the capital Chisinau. When the boiler broke down, mothers could not bathe their children any more. They had to wash the children, themselves and their clothes in ice-cold water during winter. As the children are quarantined, they could neither leave the hospital for washing somewhere else.

Lack of money for children with cancer

The defect boiler even became a serious threat for the hygienic standard in the hospital: The hospital personnel had to spend a lot of time, to heat water needed to clean the wards. The dishes had to be done in cold water and thus could not get cleaned properly any more. The hospital lacked the resources needed to buy a new boiler, as Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe.

Vladimir Cerbov, our colleague from Chisinau wrote: „It was like a holiday, when the boiler arrived. One mother even cried of joy.” And he greets all donors of Krebsallianz who have contributed to the new boiler in a traditional Moldovan way: “May your children be spared from distress, which we had to suffer. May our good wishes and prayers protect you and your beloved ones.”
