Institute of Social Medicine and Epidemiology at Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane

Our partners at the Institute of Social Medicine and Epidemiology at Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane have made it their mission to use cancer patient experiences to help others after their cancer diagnosis (therapeutic, scientific, community services support).

Professor Christine Holmberg from the Institute of Social Medicine and Epidemiology is working on developing a concept of social health for people suffering from chronic diseases in Brandenburg. She sees the lack of such discourse on community health and disease prevention. Krebsallianz has been supporting her research for the past few years. Her focus has been on how to develop a concept of centralized social health. Chronic diseases, for instance cancer and cardiovascular disease, require a lot of behavioral changes into a patients’ everyday life. The new developped concepts of social health support and improve the patients’ long-term health by profound education (e.g. adequate exercises and good nutrition).
