Wall art in 2023 at BHAKTAPUR CANCER HOSPITAL
Art is connected with humans in different ways. Specially creating portrait and different landscapes can be found even in historical artifacts. Art plays an important role to help an individual to heal mentally and emotionally. We as a team working for children living with cancer are motivated to include art during taking care of those children. Children loves art. They love drawing and coloring. We have past experience inside the pediatric oncology ward where we use to help kids drink water and eat food on time by showing art on the wall and telling them story from the art on the wall. They use to enjoy the art story and also it was a good way to communicate with children. We today believe that art works for kids always.
We discussed with Dr Sushma Gurung for creating wall art 2 yrs ago and we weren’t able to start due to several reasons. Finally, this year we succeed to organize and complete it. Before this we started sharing with different people for donating different things needed for art. Some people came up with pledge to support lunch for volunteer artist. We also asked for art school to provide us young artist who are interested to help make art voluntarily. We received 3 main artist and additional hands later on the week. We discussed with Dr Sushma about the need of replacing the wall paint by white. We collected different colors from ART BEAT studio and then started painting by 31st of May.
We replaced color by 30th may to white and very next day finished coloring white and started sketching. We were accompanied by Mr. Sushant Dahal for lunch who himself was sponsor for the lunch for 2 days. We received support for necessary white colors from Selena Malla and another quantity from Mr. Sanam Doka Sherpa. We completed the Painting by 2nd June and cleaned the color dripped areas on Saturday.
We are really thankful to all kind people for supporting us to cheering up our kids living with cancer through art. We thank you all and our organization for being together in this historical moment of creating art inside the pediatric oncology ward of BHAKTAPUR CANCER HOSPITAL The spirit of volunteering for a nobel cause is appreciable. We really love this art work.
The Nepalese Dirghaavei Voluntary Group (DVG), based in Kathmandu, aims to alleviate the distress of childhood cancer sufferers and their families. The creative and hard-working team at DVG organize a number events each month to bring together children and their families who are living with cancer. DVG puts a lot of value in the psycho-social care of those affected by cancer and supports children, siblings and their parents through counselling, childcare, community building and taking trips together. Over the past month the team has hosted two dinners and arranged for the children’s ward at Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital to be redecorated.
